Hey folks,
Welcome to my first newsletter since my return from Bahrain. As reported last week, I was out playing in the Bahrain Open which I managed to win way back in 2004. Seems a long time ago. I really enjoyed being back out there rubbing shoulders with some old and some new friends, it really is a brilliant part of the world and one I would definitely recommend you visit someday.
In the Open itself I exceeded my expectations by finishing third. I had been putting the practice in at the range all Winter and was so happy to put a couple of good rounds together. Unfortunately, I couldn't go two better and win it.
The winner was a good friend of mine, Andrew Marshall (not of Houston Driving Range). His golf in the final round was impeccable and you could really see the years of experience of Tour golf shining through, it was a pleasure to watch and play with. In second place was Sultan Al Hakam from Bahrain, I actually used to teach him when I was there so that was nice to see him play well. It really was a lot of fun and has got me thinking about maybe getting the tour shoes out again...
Well it's all just about coming to an end for another season in Pumphy's Winter Series. It has been an awful Winter but hats off to you all for turning out in your numbers and making the grand final on the 19th March possible. I have already got the prize table prepared and it looks as though it going to be a cracking day. Let's hope the weather behaves itself. With regard to the prizegiving, I am hoping to get this started at 6pm at the latest. It will take the form of winner being presented first, this lets everyone pick a prize that suits them. If you cannot make the presentation then you will still get a prize.
The overall winner was Scott Crockett (get your speech ready, buddy), well done and great scoring. It was a close run thing, the top five look like this:
Scott Crockett - 297 pts
Scott Crabbe - 287 pts
Bill Caven - 283 pts
Gary Taylor - 280 pts
Darren Gracey - 279 pts
Well I came back from Bahrain to 31 boxes heaped in the pro shop. It was like Santa had been, except he left invoices. Some brilliant new gear is in and the shop really is bulging with goodies. I have just taken delivery of the new Motocaddy range, the new trolleys look amazing as do the bags, look out for promotions in the near future. We also have the brilliant Vokey SM6 wedges from Titleist - these are a MUST try!
Remember - All account monies must be spent before the end of April. This money WILL NOT carry over.
