Hi folks,
Welcome to my latest newsletter and what and amazing week of golf we have just witnessed at Troon. I was there on the Friday but the weather was so bad I never even made it to the course - a few of you had already bet that I wouldn't so I guess I can't just blame the weather!
Seriously though, was that the best performance in an Open Championship ever?
Stenson was flawless and Mickelson must still be bemused as to why he didn't win after shooting 65 on Sunday. Really sets up a great Ryder Cup and wouldn't it be great if they were paired together in the singles come Sunday?
It was great to play a few holes with Wishaw Golf Club legend Fraser McLaughlan recently. Fraser is back for a couple of weeks and it was great to catch up and reminisce of old times at the club. He passed on his regards to all of the members and commented on how good the course was looking. Hopefully we can catch up for another game before he departs.
Above is a photo of Wishaw at 9:00am on Wednesday morning - would you believe it's July?! The remarkable thing is that we were open again by 2:00pm!
I had the pleasure of teaching 16 junior members on Thursday morning. We are trying really hard to get a good little section off the ground and if anyone could spare some time on a Thursday morning to help out then please get in touch.
Simon Harris came along for a lesson this week, complaining of weak shots to the right. In his set up I noticed that he had a very narrow stance and was leaning on his left side too much (first photo below). This really makes it difficult to release the club and usually results in shots going off to the right.
In the second photo you can see a much more natural set up with a wider stance and with a little more weight on his right side (left shoulder higher). This help a more powerful release of the club with a wider exit. His shots improved dramatically, look out for him on the scoreboard in the coming weeks.
As always new stock continues to land in store. We also have these SuperStroke putter grips in store which are proving so popular since Jordan Spieth started using them. The cost just £40, including fitting, and really help to eliminate any wrist action during the stroke.
I hate to say it but some nice new Puma Autumn/Winter range had arrived. Pop in for a look, their new jacket is something else.
