Welcome to my weekly newsletter. Another hectic week at Wishaw and it's great to see so many of you not put off with this terrible weather; when is the rain going to stop? The course is really taking it well and as many of you are saying they can't remember it playing so well. Hats off to Gerry and the boys.




I had the pleasure of playing the Old Course at St Andrews on Thursday with former member David Curran and two current members, Billy Denholm and Graeme Schoneville. David is a former dentist in the area but moved up that way several years ago to continue his practice. He has since retired and is enjoying doing some part-time work working as a Ranger on the Old Course. He seemed very happy and it certainly is not doing his golf any harm. Let's just say I was lucky to have him as a partner. We had a great game and I have to say that is now only the 2nd time I have played the "Old Lady" and I really can't wait to give it another go, it is truly amazing.

As many of you will have heard, Nike Golf has pulled the plug on making hardware from 2017 and are only going to continue concentrating on shoes and clothing. This has come as quite a shock to the industry as they have invested so much in it. Their product is very good and there are some amazing reductions on it in-store with what I have left. Sun 28 Aug - Lithgow Open Mixed Foursomes - I have been asked by the ladies to try and promote this event, so far it has a very low entry, please try and help fill this tournament up.

Sat 24 Sep - Parky's Pro's Day - This will be the first ever Pro's Day at Wishaw GC. The match committee have kindly given me the date and although it is the September weekend, I hope you will support me and play in this amazing event. This will be a pairs event with a member asked to invite a guest from another club. More information will follow but trust me you will not want to miss this one, the prizes are sick! It is open to all members.

Sun 2 Oct - Ryder Cup Challenge - I am in the process of organising a Pro vs Captain Ryder Cup match on the last day of the Ryder Cup. The whole idea is a fun game of golf (shotgun start) with everyone finishing at same time to come in for a bite to eat and small presentation then sit back, relax in the clubhouse and watch the European team whip the American team with a few refreshments. It would be a great idea to take the Monday off as I am currently working on some drink promotions with the committee. Seriously though, it could be an amazing day if we get it off the ground. Times will be confirmed nearer the time as we get the TV schedule for the actual Ryder Cup.
