Welcome back to my weekly newsletter. This week I promise I am not going to talk about the weather, I feel more like a weatherman than a golf pro these days. But on that subject please stop listening to the weather apps on your phone, we had one game booked in all yesterday afternoon as many of you cancelled, we don't always get the weather these guys predict and low and behold yesterday afternoon was very playable. Come, enjoy the course, it's looking well, won't be long till the mats and winter greens are here so make the most of it.

Unrepaired pitch marks

Big Gerry has asked me to mention his concerns about the lack of pitch marks being repaired. I played a few holes last night and repaired about 15 on the 18th green, even chipping into the green will leave pitch marks now so please don't just repair your mark but repair others if you happen to see them.

Winter wheels

It's coming to that time of the year when the course is getting pretty heavy, lots of courses now ban trolley use in the winter as it causes lots of areas like that pictured on the course

These areas sometimes never recover and can be avoided by using special winter wheels.

Apart from the course being better protected, it also helps your trolley perform better as they will stop the wheels spinning and give your battery longer life.

Gerry is strongly recommending that these wheels be used to help make the course better in the long run. The benefits of these wheels are:

Winter series

Winter is coming...

Unfortunately winter is just around the corner and it will be time for the second winter series to kick off on the 14th October. It was great to get it off the ground last year and I am really looking forward to a bigger and better competition this coming season.

There will be a slight tweak to the handicapping system which will give a more in depth (and possibly) fairer adjustment. I am also going to introduce a points system which will work like the Formula 1 for the top ten. All will be revealed over the next few weeks. but I am pretty excited about it - Hopefully you all are too.

Well after Gerry mentioning the use of winter wheels I better talk a little about what is on offer out there. It has been proven that these wheels protect the course which is great but from a retailers point of you it also helps with your trolley, I would like to point out a couple of options you could look at.

Motocaddy - (£79.99)

Motocaddy make their own wheels which simply attach on the same way your current wheels do, simply take your summer wheels off and clip on the new ones. The description hedgehog tells you all you need to know but the pointed spikes give grip on the muddy areas and keep the flat part of the wheel from spinning.

Masters Fairway Hoppa - (£29.99)

The Fairway Hoppa consists of a set of plastic studded wheel sleeves, which wrap around most electric and pull trolley wheels. By lifting the golf trolley up off the ground using ‘GeoFlex’ technology, the Hoppa reduces ground contact by distributing the weight onto the studs, increasing forward momentum and preventing damage to the course in wet conditions. They merely leave dimple marks instead of the unsightly wheel tracks.

Masters Electric Fairway Hoppa - (£64.99)

If you don't like the idea of doctoring the wheels of you current trolley, the the same idea comes as wheels also. A little cheaper than the Motocaddy and PowaKaddy versions, these are definitely a set to think about.

I have heard lots of people talk about these wheels and I must stress this is not "just to make the pro money" this protects your course and improves the lifespan of your trolley and battery. Seriously consider these wheels and I am sure we will all see better areas on the course in the next few months.
