Coach's corner

Now the better weather has arrived hopefully we can all start looking to improve our game. Not only has the poor weather affected the chances of getting on the course it has also had a knock-on effect in practice time. But, here we see new member John Maddock working on improving his set up. John had a few lessons last year and decided to join the club as he was enjoying it and wanted to get on the course.

From the picture we can see that John had a couple of issues: John suffers from top shots and thins, this is due to his left arm being slightly bent at address, but mainly his head being in front of the ball giving him a very steep descending blow which often hits the top of the ball.

From the improved set up position we were trying to get that left arm straighter and move John’s head and weight slightly more to the right (behind) of the ball. This will help John see the part of the ball he wants to hit and also shallow out hit angle of attack, almost instantly we started to see some nice shots fly away.
