Hello Golfers,

Welcome to my weekly newsletter, as I write this I am sitting in the car park at Lanark Golf Club waiting to tackle my first 18 holes since March. I haven’t been injured or anything just not had any time to play. However I must say that I am looking forward to a game though. I take it everyone is enjoying the weather just now? The course is just playing lovely at the moment and the scoring in recent weeks has proved that.

In this week's email, we explore who will be battling it out at the European Tour's flagship event this weekend, we welcome some stars to Wishaw, we look at ways of combining several layers to create the perfect outfit, highlight new member Tom's improvements and we discuss one simple way of achieving extra distance off the tee.

Team news

I would like to take this opportunity to wish new team manager Willie Black all the best in his new role, as outgowing manager John McCann decided to hang up the blazer and Willie has stepped up to the plate. I am sure we would all like to thank John for his efforts over the last few years. Rumour has it that Willie will be paraded to the public in a Brendan Rodgers/Stevie Gerrard fashion at 4.30pm on Friday....

The team have played 2 matches so far and lost 1 and won 1 with another game taking place at Crow Wood on Thursday.

Radio Clyde Superscoreboard team take on Wishaw

It was great to welcome the team from the football phone-in to sunny Wishaw. From left to right Gordon Dalziel, Mark Wilson, Gordon Duncan and ex member Marco Dimambro. They had a very enjoyable day and hope to be back.

Upcoming events

Masters Qualifying 10/6/18

Sadly we only have 12 teams signed up for this event which is a poor show. Did I mention that the winner of this heat represents the club at the national final where 2 teams will qualify to go to the ACTUAL Masters in 2019 and the grand final is at Blairgowrie.

I have heard a few comments of “£15 to play your own course” and yes this is true but look at the potential prize, even if you just get through the first hurdle you get a game at Rosemount for your £15. Give it a go it could happen.

If you wish to enter a team it’s £60 per team of 4 and can be made up of members and guest.

New member lesson

I welcomed non-member Tom Ralston for a lesson on Tuesday. Tom is an occasional golfer who struggles with consistency and power. From the first picture we can see Tom has a very poor posture, slumped with his weight on his heels with a horribly curved spine. This makes it very difficult to move without moving your head and also makes consistent striking impossible. The lack of power due to poor rotation was evident also.

If we look at the second picture we can see a much more athletic posture and the results were almost instant. Better contact followed with increased clubhead speed brought a big smile to Tom’s face.

All eyes on Wentworth

What an amazing weekend of sport we have ahead of us: the first cricket test of the summer takes place at Lord’s as England host Pakistan; Liverpool face serial winners Real Madrid in the Champions League final, and tennis’ clay court season comes to its climax as the French Open gets underway at Roland Garros.

But, more importantly, the European Tour returns to our shores as Wentworth hosts the BMW PGA Championship. Last year’s victor, Alex Noren, will be looking to carry on his stellar form and make it back-to-back victories in this event but faces stiff competition from other Ryder Cup stars and past winners like Rory McIlroy and Paul Casey.
