Welcome to this week's newsletter.

What a terrible week it’s been for rain and once again it managed to cancel one of our competitions. As you can see from the photo above Wednesday’s Stableford Salver competition had no option but to be cancelled. When I was going round it was easily the worst conditions I had seen the course in. Look out for a new date for the Stableford salver. Better day today though and the course to be fair looks like it has taken the rain well. Fingers crossed for better weather ahead.

Competition news

Condie Open results

We had a fantastic turnout for the Condie Open with only 3 people out of the whole field failing to turn up. With almost a full house play started at 7:30am straight through to 3:30pm. Tam Ballantyne came out on top with a fantastic nett score of 64. Well done Tam, great stuff.

Seniors Open results

Well done to Allan Leach who was victorious in our Wishaw Seniors Open which had a record entry. Well done to all the organisers also, a great event.

Nelson Jordan at Shotts GC

Well done to Tony Macis who won the overall trophy in the Nelson Jordan for seniors at Shotts golf club, good to see the Wishaw boys cleaning up.

Greenkeeping news

Andy started at Wishaw Golf Club on the 7th of June 1969 as an Apprentice Greenkeeper. He worked in many clubs in England before returning to Scotland to take up the Head Greenkeeper position at Bellshill Golf Club where he stayed for 12 years. He then moved onto be the course manager at Dalmahoy Golf and Country Club for 25 years. During this time he overseen numerous upgrades and changes to the course but most notably was responsible for the set up for the Solheim Cup in 1992 this was one of the highlights of his career. Andy returned to Wishaw in 2014 and will retire on the 7th of June 2019, exactly 50 years from when he first started at Wishaw Golf Club.

Nicky Lawrie (right) has joined the green keeping team from Hamilton GC and Grant Hill has joined us from Colville Park GC. I am sure you will all join me in welcoming both to the club and wish Andy all the best for the future in his retirement.

Golf in Scotland Masters Texas Scramble - 09/06/2019

Would you like to go to the Masters next year for £15? Get a team of 4 (members or guests) together and get your names to the pro shop team. This is a fun competition in a texas scramble format. A great chance to qualify for the national final round your home club, a massive advantage over the visiting players so take advantage of it. This will sell quickly once advertised on Facebook so get in quickly and get your desired tee off time.

Silloth Funday event - 23/06/2019

The annual Silloth Funday is getting close, entries are not being taken at the moment (draw goes live on 10/6/19). We are currently looking for sponsors for the event. Back in the day the only way to get a game in this event would be to donate a prize. It would be great to get that sort of support once again. Please help make the Silloth one of the best competitions in the calendar.

Time for a little reflection

Who doesn’t love the month of June? Long evenings, blistering sunshine (might be a little optimistic here) and plenty of opportunities to hit the course. With much of the season left to go and more competitions on the horizon, it’s time to take note of how you’ve been playing so far this year.

Scenario 1

Hopefully, you've been playing regularly to your handicap or, better still, shooting under it. If that’s the case then happy days, keep up the good work!

But we all know there’s room for improvement.

Perhaps you don’t use a particular club as often as you could simply out of a lack of confidence with it? Or maybe you’re struggling with a destructive shot that is impacting your scores?
