Welcome to this week's newsletter and what a much better week for the weather. It's amazing how the course has dried up and we are back to normal with the removal of preferred lies on Thursday and the golf carts being allowed back onto the course. Hopefully we can get a good couple of weeks weather as predicted by the weather experts and make it a class end to the season. I hope to see you at the club over the next few weeks.

Solheim Cup at Gleneagles

I had the pleasure of attending the last round of the Solheim Cup and what a finish it was. I had a fantastic day and I have to say how exciting it was. I knocked back the chance to go to the Ryder Cup when it was held there because I thought I would enjoy watching it more on TV. I totally regret that now, the atmosphere was electric and it must have been similar at the Ryder Cup. Well done to Catriona Matthew and her magnificent 12 players. It looked like Europe had maybe just lost it when Hull and Van Dam lost the last but and amazing comeback by Bronte Law and Suzanne Petterson sealed the win for Europe.

There is still some fantastic scores coming in and great to see everything hotting up for the close of the season. The winter series is just round the corner so make sure you don't get your handicap cut too much before that starts. Over the last few weeks I have seen many of you lift lots of sweep money and your pro shop accounts are in arrears, remember you can transfer this cash into your pro shop account, this will help you clear your bill faster.

September Weekend Scramble - Sunday 29th September

We have another Sunday social coming up on the Sunday 29th September. Pat Murray has the wonderful NIGHTFLY booked and due to start at 3:00pm.

This competition is open to members and guest and is only £5 per head to play. It will be a shotgun start at 10:30am followed by a short presentation just before NIGHTFLY blasts out the tunes to get your golfing feet into dancing feet.

Get in touch with the pro shop team and they will reserve your space, we only have availability for 20 x 4 man teams so first come first serve, it should be a busy day again at the club so invite your friends also.

Coaching Corner

This week I had Colin Murray down for his first golf lesson with me, Colin had been struggling with his game and was mainly struggling with the quality of strike with his irons. Many of Colin's shots were being hit thin or in fact the opposite a little heavy. Looking at picture one we can see Colin's ball position was way too far forward, he was hitting a nine iron from a driver set up causing him to hit behind the ball or in fact catch it on the upswing and thin it. Picture two shows a much better ball position. Being more central this encourages a more descending blow to the ball and helps catch the ball before the turf more frequently. Looking forward to working with Colin more in the future and seeing where this little change takes him.

Goodbye laces. Hello Boa

Cover story

This might sound a little complicated but just give us a chance on this one...

Urethane vs Ionomer? Both are materials used on the cover of golf balls but what is the difference between them and how does each affect your game?

TaylorMade TP5 - Urethane cover

You'll usually find that balls at the premium end of the market, like the TP5 and TP5x, have Urethane covers due to its noticeably softer feel and fantastic feedback, which is why they're the go-to choice for many Tour pros.

TaylorMade Project (s) - Ionomer cover

On the other hand, Ionomer is cheaper to produce which is why you'll find them on less expensive balls, like the Project (s). These balls tend to spin less off the tee, which is why Ionomer features on balls that prioritise distance over feel.

A warmer option
