Hello Golfers,

Welcome to this weeks newsletter. What another dire week with the weather by the looks of it. I played a few holes after work on Wednesday and the course is pretty heavy. With more rain forecast it looks like it’s going to be a pretty wet end to the season.

Still play well folks, only a couple of weeks till the Winter series starts up. I will send out the information about that in due course.

Anyway enjoy the read and hope to see you up the club soon.

Latest results

I have to report to you a day early this week due to the holidays so I only have the result from Saturday to present to you.

Well done to new member Brian Lanigan on winning the Monthly medal finals. A great first year for you.

Upcoming events - September Weekend Scramble - Sunday 29th September

We have another Sunday social coming up on the Sunday 29th September. Pat Murray has the wonderful NIGHTFLY booked and due to start at 3:00pm.

This competition is open to members and guest and is only £5 per head to play. It will be a shotgun start at 10:30am followed by a short presentation just before NIGHTFLY blasts out the tunes to get your golfing feet into dancing feet.

Get in touch with the pro shop team and they will reserve your space, we only have availability for 20 x 4 man teams so first come first serve. It should be a busy day again at the club so invite your friends also. If you don’t have a team but would like a game then let the Pro shop team know and we will find you a game, we have a couple of teams looking for players.

Support Wishaw Juniors FC

I was deeply saddened to learn the local football club Wishaw Juniors has their ground damaged by vandals the other day. I hope you will come together to help raise some money for Wishaw Juniors in their quest to help them rebuild after the damage.

I have managed to obtain a pair of top of the range golf shoes which I intend to raffle this week (until Sunday) with ALL the proceeds going to them. Many thanks to my sponsor adidas for making this possible.

I also have a 4 ball for the fantastic Baberton Golf Club that was kindly donated by their club professional Richard Fyvie, a big thanks to him also.

New arrivals for the autumn/winter season

The weather is not looking great for the next week and I ask you to have a little look at your waterproofs. Nowadays they really are so good to play in and not all are Galvin Green prices. FootJoy's new offering is fantastic. Pop in for a look as they are really striking and very comfortable to wear, especially the HYDROKNIT top which feels like sweater and is 100% waterproof.

They've done it again

Without further ado, let us introduce TaylorMade’s scintillating Milled Grind 2 wedge and look at why it's such a good option to be putting in the scoring part of your bag.

Now this wedge is quite unique. It's all to do with Raw Face Technology, which increases spin and feel compared with the original Milled Grind.

Winter is coming

Have you ever noticed how much harder you need to hit your putts in the winter compared to summer? As surfaces begin to slow due to longer grass and wetter greens, the need for a little extra effort on your putting stroke becomes clear.

Should you change your putter?

As putts need to be hit harder to get the ball going the same distance as they do in the summer months, using a heavier putter certainly won’t do you any harm.

The thought here is that a heavier putter will do more of the work for you, allowing for a smooth and more controlled putting stroke.

Whilst still being relatively lightweight compared to some putters, Cleveland's new Frontline range is certainly an option we'd recommend you trying.
