Hello Golfers,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. Hopefully you have had a good week golfing and got back into the swing of using the winter mats. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it really goes a long way in helping the course. As I write this I am away with the family to Center Parcs. No golf for a week right enough, but nice to get away with them. I will be looking forward to getting back to work for a rest. See you at weekend folks and enjoy the read.

Competition news

Winter Series Week One

A cracking start with 74 golfers turning out to play. A few usual suspects emerged on the prizelist and I am beginning to think they save their best golf for the winter. Well done to all who turned out and if we can keep the numbers up the final day will prove to be better than ever. That's £74 in the bank already for the prizes. For full result click here.

Wednesday Sweep

Not as good a start as I had hoped for, but the weather forecast was not particularly good. Remember mid-week members this is your chance to play a little competitive golf through the winter season so try and take advantage. Handicaps are not effected in any way so come up and try and clean up the dosh.

Presentation Of Prizes

On Friday 1st November, we have our annual Presentation of Prizes. This is a fantastic evening where you can show off to your mates with all your silverware. If this does not apply to you then you can come along and show support to the ones that did.

Click here to view a list of prize winners. Campbell Elliott the Golf Professional from Haggs Castle Golf Club will be your speaker for the evening and has a fantastic reputation for being brilliant.

Open to members and non-members this proves to be an enjoyable night. Tickets are still available at the bar.

Winter is coming...

We are still busy in the shop and the best sellers of the week funnily enough have been the winter mats. Still plenty available so pop in for yours as these MUST be used on the course now. Also pop in for a look at the sale shoe wall with some cracking bargains withe some shoes even cheaper than some of the online sites. You also get to try them on before you buy. Also in stock is the new autumn/winter ranges from FootJoy, adidas, Under Armour, Glenmuir and Stuburt. The sale rail is full of spring/summer bargains too.

The round white thing...

Since the game began in the 15th century, there is one thing that has never changed – the ball being the only piece of equipment used on every shot. Despite this, it still gets a raw deal with some golfers viewing it as less important than the clubs used to hit it. So, we decided to take a look back and see how modern golf balls compare to those of yesteryear.

In the beginning

Feathery balls reigned supreme for over 200 years in the early days of golf, but even they are relatively new compared to the original hairy balls (guess what they were stuffed with!).

It's hard to imagine what it would be like playing with those balls these days, and even the later-developed Gutty and Haskell balls left golfers with little-to-no room for error.

Where we are today

Find your sole mate
