I see I didn't miss much with the weather. From what people have been telling me it has been pretty much frozen solid since I left. Gerry reckons that helps dry the course up though so hopefully we will see the benefit as the winter drags on.

Anyway good to get back and in the next few days, you will see the shop (clobber cave) turn into a Christmas wonderland ready for your better halves to spoil you.

Winter Series - Saturday 9th November

Well it had to happen, the dreaded winter greens for the Saturday golf. Not everyone's cup of tea I know as it usually sends the points into orbit. Well it happened, some fantastic scores and that will really help the eight score average at the end of the winter season. Hard running fairways and gigantic holes seem to suit some players. Having said that there were 41 players turned out to play so thanks for making the effort to play. We now have £249 saved up for the final day shootout.

Junior Coaching at Fairways Indoor Arena

Every Tuesday there is Junior Coaching available by myself at the fantastic Fairways Indoor Arena. Well done to Ian Prentice for organising this. If you would like your Junior Member to get involved get in touch with Ian on 07584384727 or myself and we will get them into the coaching rota. It costs only £5 per week and the kids really get the most out of it. The facility is top class and due to the limited resources at Wishaw it is pretty much the only way we can work through the winter.

This week we worked at the basic set-up and putting. I usually see set up problems with kids when they are growing up and it was very noticable on Tuesday. All of these kids have taken a stretch and possibly the clubs they are using now are getting a little small for them. A good time to talk to myself about it with the man in the red suit just around the corner.

Members' trip to Portugal with Your Golf Travel

Well its all over, but what a fantastic few days we had in sunny Portugal. It was my first time travelling to Portugal and I was blown away. I booked the trip through Your Golf Travel (you get discount if you book through my website and quote the special code).

My personal favourite was Pinhal but all four courses were exceptional. As you know I have been lucky enough to play top courses all over the world but this is my new favourite place.

Thanks to Wishaw members; Scott Durno, Paul McCaffrey, Liam McGarry, Peter Ferguson and ex-member Phill Gallacher who now lives in Boston. We absolutely nailed it. Same time next year boys.

You don’t get to a single-figure handicap without having a strong iron game, but the journey shouldn't end there. For us, there are two key factors that, when combined properly, will help take your iron play to the next level.

1) Get custom-fitted

If you're serious about shooting in the 70s each and every round, then getting custom-fitted for your next set of irons is key.

Asking for forgiveness

We should all be looking to make this game as easy as possible for ourselves, and that’s why we recommend joining the 55% of golfers who don't use a 3 or 4-iron by swapping yours out for a more forgiving and easy-to-use hybrid.

The cold facts

Colder temperatures have a consequence on every aspect of our game, from the clothes we wear to how far the ball travels through the air. We all certainly dress to combat the chill on a winter’s day, but how many of you are switching your golf ball for one that offers you more distance when you need it the most?
