Welcome to this weeks newsletter.

Well, it had to happen sooner rather than later the pesky snow arrived. I love the snow, makes everything look nice as the picture here shows. Unfortunately, it sets the course back though. When it melts it soaks the place and the rain that followed now has the place saturated.

Fingers crossed it will hopefully dry up for the weekend. I can't take another day staring at these walls.

Competition news

Winter series - 25th Jan

A fine turnout of 56 players battled it out for the latest event. A full course faced them and this was more evident in the scores. Well done to Martin Gillespie who pipped Barry Leonard on the better inward half. Both players had 40 points. In the second class, the winner was Kevin McGuinness with 38 points. Kevin pipped Harry Lennox who was a point behind on 37 points.

After another round of the Winter League, John Canning tops the league with 328 after a 43 from this weeks round.

Upcoming event - Valentines Dance 15th Feb

The club is putting on a fantastic band in JUBILEE for this occasion. So far the uptake in tickets has been slow. Why not treat your partner (or someone else's) to a fantastic romantic evening. In the current climate, £10 is a cheap night out.

If you really want to spoil them then get in touch with Raymond and book in for a meal beforehand. Come on this is YOUR club.

Winter works

Had a wee run out on the course with Gerry to see all the Winter work that is getting done. A lot of the work this year has been the removal of rotten trees and clearing of leaves. I guess the downside of having such a well-manicured and tree-lined course is the upkeep of it.

As you can see from the pictures below, this is a very delicate job. They have cleared the little row of trees to the left of 8, which will help that area grow and drain better. At the 16th they have cleared the trees/branches of the trees down the left-hand side which opens up the tee shot a little. The left side of the tee was almost out of play due to how much they were overhanging. It must be said that lots of these branches were actually dead and broken so it looks much tidier also.

Seeing double

Marc Leishman and Lucas Herbert added to their home nations celebrations by making it a double Aussie delight at the Farmers Insurance Open and Omega Dubai Desert Classic respectively.

Sunday 26th January was Australia Day so Lucas Herbert’s first European Tour victory couldn’t have been better timed as the Victoria native overcame South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout in a nervy playoff.

The Australian whitewash was completed later in the day, as Marc Leishman kept a host of big names behind him to wrap up the Farmers Insurance Open by one from Jon Rahm to make it five PGA Tour wins for the Aussie.
