WE ARE BACK!

Well folks how good does it feel to be back pounding the links? It has been a long time coming but we are finally back playing. It has certainly not been easy getting back on the course as the availability of tee times just simply can't cope with the volume of traffic. Now we are 6 days in I trust everyone has had at least one game, I have only managed 7 holes as you have all kept me chained to my desk serving you this week. I am off on Thursday so hopefully I can sneak a game then. Not quite the weather you were all basking in at the weekend but looking forward to it never the less. There has been great reviews of the course so can't wait to play.

Well what a year to take over in your official roles as Captain. All the very best to Club Captain David Karran. An awful start to the season with this pandemic but here is hoping things are on the way up and we can get back to some sort of normality soon. To Karen I hope you have a successful season driving the ladies forward. The very best of luck also. It goes without saying if me or any of the Pro shop team can assist both of you in any way then please don't hesitate to ask. Lets all try and drive our fantastic club forward from here on in.

Davie celebrates

Here you can see Davie celebrating after his fantastic hole in one on the 8th hole. Rumour has it he started singing YMCA, As you can see from the picture it looks like he did. We opened the bar for him coming in, his wee Mini Cooper flew out the car park at 60 mph when he heard the shutter go up. Only kidding David, very rarely these things happen, I am sure you would have loved to have celebrated in the bar afterwards. Just means you will need to get another one when the bar does re-open.

Sandy welcomes son Craig to club

We have welcomed over 15 new members to the club. Pictured above is Sandy "band aid" Mitchell who enjoyed a round with his son as a member. Welcome to the club Craig and welcome to the rest of the new members who have joined. Strange times at the moment but you have joined a fantastic club. Hopefully over the next few month's you really see what I mean. As always the pro shop team will be here to help you with anything you need. Welcome to the club everyone.

 
 
Shop news

Weird times in the shop, open to organise the tee but can only sell essentials. I am pretty sure just about all my stock should be deemed essential but apparently not.I have lots of left over sale items that would have gone quickly had we been open from March, Pop in for a look and we can arrange a collection or delivery for any product.

World of golf

Since our last newsletter, Rory McIlroy – the number one ranked golfer in the world – has said he “had a hunch” that September’s Ryder Cup will be postponed.

Whilst no decision has been made, the European Tour has confirmed it'll be returning 'behind closed doors' in July. The first event will be the British Masters at Close House; the first of six consecutive tournaments on British soil.

Who knows, maybe by the time the second UK Swing comes around in October – Dunhill Links, Scottish Open and BMW PGA Championship – things may look a little different.

Thoughts for the course

Chipping is a fine art. It requires precision and skill, both of which may need sharpening after a few months away from the golf course. No shame in that! So, here are a couple of points to remember.

Landing spots when chipping

Landing Spots

Don’t focus on the hole. Instead, pick out a spot – a patch of grass on the green – to land your ball on. Consider how the slope and speed of the green, the lie of the ball and the club you choose may affect where the ball finishes after landing.

Practise makes perfect

When on the chipping green, place a towel on your landing spot (as seen in the above image) and take aim. As you get the hang of it, you can fold the towel to give yourself a smaller, more challenging target to work with.
