Hey, well it feels like we have never been away right? Well, maybe not quite as yet as we are still a long way away from normality but hopefully we have all managed to get a few games in by now. The course is epic now, that little bit of rain did the trick. Looking forward to getting a wee game on Sunday. 

One area of your game that may still be a little rusty after months away from the course is your short game. So, to give you some much-needed inspiration, scroll down to our Video of the Week and watch one of the world’s best in action.

Catering News

You may have seen Raymond our chef and his staff back in some form of action. His business has been seriously hit with this Pandemic. Raymond is doing his takeaway meal service from the front door. He is also catering for the golfing members. Filled rolls will be available from 11 am and can be ordered just outside the Pro Shop. Cold filled rolls are also available from the fridge in my shop.

Please try to support this service. It's super value may I add and you will be supporting a local business in its time of need.

Pandemic airs

Thanks to each and every one of you who took part in the first sweeps of the comeback to golf. I appreciate it may not be everyones cup of tea to play doubles but it was a gentle step back to a little bit of competitive golf. This week we are going to be playing in the STAY AT HOME STABLEFORD. This will be singles so maybe this is more up some players street. Hopefully the weather is better than it was for the first day (Wednesday). 

NOTICE - It has come to my attention that I missed a couple of magic 2;s from the cards. Apologies but even I make mistakes... ha ha. the correct sheets and amounts are on the pro shop wall outsife the shop.

Day 1 - Wednesday

A lovely day kicked off the first in the series. what a round by Andy Anderson and Michael Leary to take the top spot. A spectacular 64 blew the field away.

Day 2 - Friday

Friday saw slightly less teams and the scoring wasn't quite as low as the Wednesday. That deadly pair of Andy Anderson and Michael Leary once again came out on top. This time with an average 70 by their own high standards. It was enough to clean up by a point.

Day 3 - Saturday

The players on Saturday must have been glad not to see Andy and Michael's name on the sheet to play that day. Another Anderson came in this time brother Stuart with Billy Moncrieff to lift first place. An excellent 67 saw them win by 5 strokes.

Day 4 - Sunday

The last in the series, On Wednesday Stevie Walsh thought he had done enough to win till that excellent score came in. This time though he managed to get over the line with his son Chris Walsh. They just pipped Lamond Kennedy and Stevie McCallum on the better inward half.

Winter Series action

It has been pointed out to me that I have not been very clear on what is going to happen with the remainder of the Winter Series. When all this COVID 19 stuff landed it was the penultimate weekend of the season. Lockdown happened on the Monday and more or less and that was that. We have almost £1000 saved up for the final day shootout. I still have the result of that weekend to calculate. I will do that in due course and announce the series winners. My plan is to hold a final day still but I will need to wait till things settle down before I can plan for this. Will probably need to wait till at least 3 balls are allowed on again. I will keep you all posted. One thing is sure the final will be played for the first time to super greens and no mats will be in play.... Wee Jim Kennedy will be gutted.

Thoughts for the course

Bad habits are a rite of passage for every golfer. Unfortunately, we don’t always grow out of them… Especially when it comes to driving. Believe it or not, smashing the ball as far as possible is as much about technique as it is, well, smashing it.

Hitting down on ball with driver

One of the most common homemade solutions for poor driving is to swing downwards onto the ball at impact. This does more harm than good. Yes, you want to hit downwards with your irons, but this is NOT the case for drivers.

Hitting up on ball with driver

Other than having a driver tailored to your swing, the easiest way to improve your driving is to strike the ball on an upwards arc. It's a mixture of a good body position, correct ball position as well as your angle of attack - three things we can help you with!
