Hello Golfers,

We hope you enjoyed the first Major of 2020. Was it as good as the electrical storm on Tuesday evening? The loud thunder and the bright lightning woke the Park household up at 3.00am. The rain and hail were unbelievable. The course as you would expect was severely underwater when I got there on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Wednesday Sweep had to be cancelled but the course opened for casual play in the afternoon.

I have put on a Pro Sweep on Friday, Saturday (after Championships) and Sunday this week. This will hopefully give the golfers who missed out on the Championships to get a competitive game. Championship players are also more than welcome to play for the extra practice.

Club Championships

What a great weekend for the Gents and Ladies Championships. Some good, bad and ugly scores over the two days but the leaderboards are set.

This Saturday brings the final round and with some good weather forecast, hopefully, the best will come from the golf. Check out the leaderboards below and choose the Championship you would like to concentrate on. Come on and support them and spur them on.

Callum Connacher leads the way by one-stroke from Connor MacLeod going into the final round. Looks like a really exciting final round in store. Is it a two-horse race or can some magic come from the groups behind? Both players are in good form and could be a group to follow on the final day.

Stevie Jeffrey has a two-stroke lead over young Declan Connor. All to play for especially with so many players bunched up behind. The handicap champs often throws up some extra excitement and looks like it will deliver on Saturday.

Catrina Pickard and Heather Connacher battle it out for the Scratch Championship. Catrina holds a four-stroke advantage going into the final round and again proves to be a nail-biting finish. Karen Charnley is a little off the pace and is nine strokes behind but who would rule her out? Golf is a funny game and you never know till it's over.

Heather Connacher has a sizeable lead over Sharon Smith and Karen Charnley going into the last round. With Heather possibly concentrating on the Scratch event, could one of them come from behind? Watch this space.

 
Cobra fitting day

A big thanks to the committee for letting me use the first hole to conduct a free fitting day by Cobra Golf.

Thanks also to Fraser from Cobra who conducted the expert fitting. Some good gains were noted and hopefully will help the customers choose the correct clubs moving forward.

Golf on Tour

The long wait for a Major was worth it. What an incredible PGA Championship we saw at TPC Harding Park!

A highly-competitive tournament saw everybody from rising stars to relative unknowns and, of course, Brooks Koepka all have a pop at the Wanamaker Trophy. In the end, it was rising star Collin Morikawa who came out on top.

Usually, pars are enough when you hold the lead on Sunday at a Major, but not this time. A six-under 64, including a chip-in birdie on 14 and an eagle on the 16th, took Morikawa to -13 for the week to claim an incredible victory aged 23 and in just his second Major start.

We had a poll on our website last week that asked who was most likely to dominate golf over the next decade. Jon Rahm was by far the favourite - he's back to World Number One now - followed by Koepka and then Justin Thomas. The egg is certainly on our face for not including Morikawa in our list! Maybe next time…

Think you're not good enough to be fitted?

The number of golfers who have not been fitted for their irons is far higher than it should be. We often hear golfers say they’re not good enough to get custom fitted, but we are here to dispel that myth and explain why getting fitted WILL improve your iron play.

Consistency is critical in your iron play and being fitted for your irons will give you this, plus improve your accuracy and make any errors less extreme.
