Good afternoon folks,
Well what a week of weather! It is brilliant to have some sunshine and some golf without all the layers on, it's been a busy week at the club and great to see some of the membership have dusted the clubs down from their winter lay-off! Good to see the practice facilities busy, also. The key to a good round!!
Last weekend saw the Welch Cup take place with J Bishop topping Section A ahead of B Christie and G McKenzie. In Section B it was G Robb who came out on top, with C Wright and F Scotcher finishing in second and third places, respectively. Derek Millar took the plaudits in Section C, with William Waters in second and D Muir in third.
We had a cracking day weather wise for the Wilson Fitting Day and a pretty good turnout. Gary Ross, the club fitter, was very impressed with a lot of the improvements people were making to their current models. One of the happy customers, Martin Ketchion, has written this testimonial for you to read, a nice touch and thanks:
David, Firstly I would like to thank you for bringing the Wilson Staff Fitting Day to Pumpherston GC. I would further like to thank Gary Ross for his time and effort in making me particularly welcome to the trial and fitting area. As you know from previous conversations, I am a Wilson Brand ambassador of sorts. In 32 years I have never played anything other than Wilson or Wilson Staff irons. I have recently moved back to Wilson FG Tour M3 driver, fairways and hybrid so all except putter.
I have been lucky enough to be fitted previously for Wilson Staff irons on three other occasions, twice now via demo days and it's an experience I value and recommend to all.
I introduced myself to Gary on the day and although I made him aware of my previous setup with my current FG Tour V2 irons, I was delighted that he took the time to go through all options incase anything had changed in the last 30 months. After some warm up with my current 7-iron, it was onto the new V4 irons and wow was I glad I tried them as Gary pointed out, the average gain in distance after fitting was 5-7 yards but almost just as important I was able to feel how the shots matched against the launch monitor data. I did try the other models as recommended by Gary but as a forged man I am choosing to stick with the forged irons.
Once again a big thank you to you, Gary and Wilson Staff for another wonderful fitting experience.
Kind Regards, Martin Ketchion
This just goes to show the true benefit of coming down for a no obligation custom fitting. If you are interested in sharing a similar experience to Martin, then please come and see me in store or get in touch here.
Don't forget, we have our Titleist BLITZ event on Wednesday, 6 May!
It's been a manic week on the coaching front, lots of improving golfers out there and great to see some of my pupils really starting to get some great results. I would like to talk about one of my lessons this week and how a poor set-up can cause problems. Willie was suffering from a low ball flight that had the habit of being pushed to the right.
To begin with, he has his hands too far in front of the ball and his weight leaning on his left side, this can promote a downward strike with a de-lofted clubhead which could result in the ball moving to the right as well as travelling low.
After a bit of work I got Willie in a much better position, slightly more weight on the right side and his hands more behind the ball. This will help with a more sweeping action and will also help him square the blade up as well as keep the proper loft on the clubface, promoting a higher ball flight.
Once again can I remind all members that your shop credit should be used before the end of this month, we have loads of goodies in for you to spoil yourself with.
